The Love of a Supreme Being
The Boston Book (1837)
In 1837 Jacob Abbott contributed a five page essay to The Boston Book on "The Love of a Supreme Being".
There were four volumes of The Boston Book being Specimens of Modern
Literature. These books were comprised of numerous articles, essays and
stories by authors of the day.
The first in 1836 was edited by Henry T. Tuckerman. The second which
was edited by Benjamin T. Thatcher was published in 1837. This volume
included the Abbott essay noted above. The third Boston Book was
published in 1841 and was edited by George S. Hillard. After almost a
decade lapse, Ticknor, Reed and Fields published a Boston Book in 1850.
